Goal

With reference to the correspondence noted

Sou 32450.

in the margin, I have the honour to

inform you that Mr. A. F. Churchill

had made arrangements to leave his

wife and family at Colombo while he

proceeded to England for advice on his eyes.

When, however, your Cypher telegram of the

6th. April was received, I permitted him and his family to

travel in a Japanese stemmer via the Cape to England, and they

sailed on the 11th. instant, passports having already been

issued to them.

2.

It is necessary that Mr. Churchill should

be medically examined as to his fitness for further service in the Public Works Department before he is permitted to return to the Colony; and as it is extremely improbable that his eye- -sight can be sufficiently restored to render him fit for service, it would be convenient that the question of his fit- -ness for further service should be decided as soon as possible,

I shall be glad, therefore, if Mr. Church- -ill could be medically examined soon after his arrival in

England
